Forest Elementary School received an email on Friday evening informing us the Solar Eclipse Viewing Eyewear (purchased by the school) was not certified by the Astronomical Society as claimed by the vendor. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, we have canceled the outdoor viewing of the Solar Eclipse and will instead provide a live view in each classroom. If you would like to visit FES during the eclipse and accompany your child outside with eyewear provided by you, we will be more than happy to accommodate these parents. We apologize for the cancellation, but the safety of our students is of utmost importance. Thanks for understanding.

Forest Elementary School's fourth grade class recently had the opportunity to visit the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson. In observance of Black History month, Mrs. Samantha Tadlock, 4th grade chair, Dr. Rhonda Kelley, 4th grade ELA teacher, and the English Language educators organized the field trip. In a recent contest sponsored by USA Today, the Mississippi Civil Rights museum placed in the Top 5 History Museums in the nation. FES fourth grader Julio Gomez Carmelo said that the exhibitions in the museum made him feel sad but that he enjoyed the trip with his friends. This was a fitting response to visiting a museum whose mission is "to teach the children about the state's history to shape its future." Mother of two grown sons, educator Rhonda Hardy was most touched by the Emmett Till display. Dr. Kelley explained that the museum is so large, the one cannot finish the tour in one day. She encourages parents to take their families to visit the museum and explore it more thoroughly. She also noted that the museum provides free admission on Sunday afternoons.
